Special Needs
Transitioning into Head Start from a Birth to Three Program
We work with the Sheboygan County Birth to Three Program to make the transition to Head Start classrooms a smooth process
These transition activities include but are not limited to: initial home visits, site tours, informational packets, Head Start staff support on IEP teams, observations in classrooms and/or treatment settings.
**No child is refused entrance to Head Start due to a disability.
Developmental Screener
Each child is screened within the first 45 days of entering the program with the Ages and Stages Developmental Screener. This screener measures communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving and personal-social areas.
Referrals to Local School Districts
Referrals to local school districts are made for many educational and developmental reasons.
Parental agreement is required for all referrals and we support the family through this process.
IEP’s: Individual Education Plan
We work with the Sheboygan County School Districts to provide consistency in programming.
Head Start staff individualize lesson plans to support the goals of each child’s IEP on a daily/ weekly basis.
Referral Agency
We provide resource information on agencies in Sheboygan County who work with children with disabilities.
